Configure multiple VAT rates settings

Modified on Tue, 8 Aug, 2023 at 3:07 PM

If you have products for which different VAT rates apply:

1. Make sure you have already configured the VAT settings. See the VAT payer settings

2. Add product collections in Shopify for each category of products with a different VAT, then the default one and name each group with the VAT rate to recognise it and select it at the next step.

Shopify > Products > Collections > Create collection

Example: name the collection so that you can easily recognize it:  9% VAT products, 15 % VAT products

3. Add the collections to the Product overrides list. Shopify will overwrite the default VAT rate with the one you save here:

Shopify > Taxes and duties > European Union > Product overrides > Add product override

  • select a product collection
  • add a VAT rate
  • click on Add override

Here you can see only the manual created collections . The automatically generated collections will not be shown in this Filter collections.

Tax changes made for products will not be reflected for the orders already received but only for new orders (those appearing after the settings have been configured).
