Parcel Count – Auto-filled from Order Item Quantity

Modified on Fri, 15 Aug at 10:48 PM

Stores that sell bulky products that don’t fit in a single package need to pack each product separately. And each package should have its own shipping label.

This is handled by creating a multi-piece shipment, where all packages are tracked together as part of the same order.

For example:

An order contains 2 travel suitcases.
These must be packed in 2 separate parcels, each with its own shipping label:
1/2 and 2/2.

When generating shipping labels, the parcel handler normally needs to manually enter the parcel number.

With the settings described below, there is no need to manually specify how many shipping labels to generate for orders containing bulky items.

Step 1: Add the parcel count metafield to the orders

Step 2: Import and activate the flow

➡️ or just click here to download the Flow

The flow structure:

The flow reads and retrieves the total number of product items in the order.
It then automatically fills in the order metafield.

When generating the shipping label, the number of parcels is set to match the total number of products in the order automatically.

Results:

The order was dispatched as one shipment consisting of two separate parcels (1 of 2 and 2 of 2) due to the item's bulky size.

  • shipping label 1/2
  • shipping label 2/2

This flow is designed per order — it counts the total number of products in the order and generates the same number of parcels.
It is suitable for stores selling bulky products that require individual packaging.

If the store also sells small-sized products, this rule does not apply to them.
Because it will also count the small products for the total parcels.
Therefore, you can adapt this standard flow to your own desired rules.
